Day 39

After we had installed our self and enjoyed a shower we went with Kevin for a very good burger together with Jack and Camilla in Sedona.

On Wednesday Jack took us out for an off-road trip in Broken Arrow. During the trip we passed by the Submarine, Chicken Point with the Two Nuns and The Mushroom. Fantastic scenery. We took the Staircase to complete the tour. We were very impressed by the driving skills of Jack and the performance a standard (no extra add-ons) Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Again something for the list 😊. Afterwards we went for a hike to the Cathedral. The view was breathtaking. For diner we enjoyed a typical Belgian stew, prepared by us at Kevin’s place, and served at Jack and Camilla’s place with some wine, a very good dessert (prepared by Camilla) and deluxe White Russian (prepared by Kevin).

We received a nice souvenir from Jack and Camilla, a self-designed t-shirt. We had a great time and laughed a lot.

On Thursday we did some very nice hikes with Kevin and again the scenery was super fantastic, Devil’s Bridge and Soldier Pass (with the 7 Sacred Pools and the sinkhole).

We had such a great time with Kevin, it felt like home. Sometimes you need to make a choice between two good things (stay or leave) but the call of the road was too loud. So we said goodbye to Kevin (We are sure we will meet again) on Friday. We drove until Cave Springs Campground in the Oak Creek Canyon. There we did the West Fork Oak Creek Hike. It was a worthwhile 3 hour walk through the canyon with at the end the real life scenery of the pictures we found on Google.

After a brief scenic overview of Oak Creek Canyon (6420ft) we continue our way to Flagstaff were our search for an Arizona sticker came finally to an end. After the celebration lunch we drove further on direction the east entrance of the Grand Canyon. Alongside Hw 64 (from Cameron to desert view) we had the first glimpse of the magnificent beauty of the Grand Canyon brought to live by the Little Colorado River Gorge. Despite the heavy wind, our plan was to camp at the desert view campsite, however it is only open during summer time. So we drove alongside the south rim towards canyon village, where the campground was full and continued our way into the Kaibab national forest where we finally found a free spot along route 688 or 302 (no idea). Tomorrow we will ride the south rim again to enjoy the beauty of the Grand Canyon.
