So we drove back to the South Rim to take some pictures of the bikes at the canyon and of course to enjoy the beauty of it at our own pace. Leaving the grand canyon we drove southwards trying to find a place with a wifi connection to upload our blog. After a few attempts we ended up in Williams where we had 4G connection at a fuel station and were able to upload our blog. We took the interstate 40 for couple of miles with the goal to find a place to sleep, however after a few miles we had enough of the interstate and left at Seligman. By coincidence the re-birthplace of the historic Route 66 and the village was apparently the inspiration for the movie ‘Cars’. We headed back for one afternoon into the ‘50ties’.
After a good night with 1000trains (KOA Selgman) and a good talk with our neighbors Marcha and David. A retired couple who started the route 66 in Santa Monica by bicycle up to Kansas City, their hometown. Lots of respect for them, especially since we experienced ourselves a lot of very strong wind. We continued on the route 66 via Kingman, and rest at Oatman, an old mining town that came back alive thanks to the romantics of route 66 and the burro’s. The route towards Oatman and afterwards was a special scenic road through the Mohave desert. Our day ended at the campsite nearby Moabi Regional Park at the border of the Colorado River. Tomorrow we will go direction Las Vegas and try to do a service of Jaak and Mieke.
