Day 54

So we left Las Vegas towards Death Valley, following the road via Red Rock Canyon, Mountain Springs and the Old Spanish Trail. This trail was a real scenic road again, we drove through the desert with view on the snowed mountains. We took an early stop at Tecopa due to the hot desert springs. The water was naturally warmed up to 45°C, which felt surprisingly refreshing in the desert. Again a unique experience (We know, we are repeating ourselves 😊) . The day after we drove via Shohone into Death Valley National Park. We did all the typical stops: Mormon point, Badwater basin (lowest point in the US), a dirt road to the natural bridge which gave us a nice overview over the valley, artists palette, the golden canyon (hike) and we continued the 190 until the Mesquite Spring campground. Unfortunately we had to skip Dantes via because the road was closed.

Today we left the campground at 9am and it was already 28°C in Death Valley 😊 (hot, hotter, hottest). After a brief stop at Stovepipe Wells, which was a special one for us, because we stayed over there on September 9, 2001, we left Death Valley and took Panamint Valley road towards the Trona Pinnacles. A suggestion we received from Jim, Richard and Roland, 3 motor guys we met during our stop in Badwater. This bizarre landscape at the bottom of an ancient lake has been the set for several movies. At the moment they were shooting for a commercial of Budweiser. We returned by the same road which was way warmer (37,5°C and hot wind). Today we ended our day at the campground in Lone Pine were we will ride the movie road tomorrow.
